What’s Hot On TV Tonight - The Beast!

The big news today is that The Beast, Patrick Swayze’s new series, starts tonight on A&E. I had the chance to preview the show beforehand, and I have to say I was very impressed. It was grittier than you think of Swayze being, and I can’t help but wonder if it has to do with his illnesss and how he’s handling it. We also have President Bush’s Farewell Address that is putting off a lot of TV in the first hour of primetime tonight. Oddly, ABC isn’t carrying it. Maybe they just felt a bigger need to air Ugly Betty.
1. Earth Girls Are Easy. Perhaps the most appealing part of this film is seeing Jim Carrey before we knew him as Jim Carrey. He plays a guy that crashed into Geena Davis’ pool in a space ship along with Damon Wyans and Jeff Goldblum, who is more or less the leader of the group. 3:30 PM CT Starz 3
2. President Bush’s Farewell Address. President Bush reviews his presidency and discusses the challenges that will be facing the new administration under president-elect Barack Obama. 7:00 PM CT, being carried on CBS, NBC, Fox, and various cable news stations.
3. Ugly Betty. Betty and Hilda are on the outs with each other at home in the Suarez household, and a love rectangle is created between Daniel, Molly, Connor, and Wilhelmina. 7:00 PM CT ABC
4. Smallville. While battling the Persuader with help from three super heroes known as the Legion (Rokk, Imra, and Garth), Clark searches for Chloe who has been kidnapped by Doomsday. 7:00 PM CT CW
5. My Name Is Earl. Part 1 of 2. Earl wants Joy to audition for a new reality show that stars Erik Estrada, and her ensuing audition antics have an effect on on Darnell in a shocking way. 7:30 PM CT NBC
6. The Office. Because Michael can’t seem to stop talking, Andy finally finds out about Angela and Dwight’s affair, which has Michael and Dwight squaring off. Michael is worried about a corporate appointment with Wallace. 8:00 PM CT NBC
7. Grey’s Anatomy. Carolyn, Derek’s mother, meets Meredith for the first time on a visit to Seattle, and Mark tries to hide his relationship with Lexie. A death row inmate wants to donate his organs to a patient of Bailey and Arizona’s, and Owen and Christina try to go on a first date. Tyne Daly and Eric Stoltz guest star. 8:00 PM CT ABC
8. Supernatural. Sam and Dean investigate a ghost that appears in an abandoned house. A family then moves into the house, and their son disappears into the walls. 8:00 PM CT CW
9. Kitchen Nightmares. It’s the finale for the second season, which has Chef Ramsay going to a restaurant in La Grange, Illinois, as the couple that own it struggle finding customers, and dealing with the head chef who doesn’t always have quality control. 8:00 PM CT Fox
10. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. Grissom works with a criminal pathologist to solve a murder and kidnapping. It all might be connected to a serial kiler in prison who participated in a class the pathologist taught. Grissom readies himself to leave CSI, and offers the pathologist a place on the team. Laurence Fishburne stars as the pathologist. 8:15 PM CT CBS
11. 30 Rock. With the flu spreading quickly around 30 Rock, Liz makes sure the staffers have had their flu shots. Elisa is busy and overworked, but Jack still does everything he can to spend time with her. 8:30 PM CT NBC
12. Eleventh Hour. An epidemic of violent and irrational outbursts around a once-quiet Texas suburb is investigated, and before long, Hood is succumbing to the strange behavior as well. 9:00 PM CT CBS

15. The Beast. Patrick Swayze stars as a veteran FBI agent training a newbie (Travis Fimmel) in this new gritty series on A&E. Read my review on the first episode. 9:00 PM CT A&E
16. Armageddon. Bruce Willis plays the guy in charge of a team sent into space to stop an asteroid from crashing into earth. He happens to be on the mission with his daughter’s (Liv Tyler) boyfriend, Ben Affleck. Steve Buscemi plays a great crazy, as always. 10:00 PM CT Starz3
