Tonight’s the night! American Idol is finally starting with the promises of some changes throughout the season. We have the debut of our fourth judge, and have less auditons than we’re used to with the promises of less concentration on the bad ones. We’re also going back to two weeks in Hollywood, giving us an opportunity to get to know the singers a little better, and then we’re going back to the Wild Card semi-final system. All of this could be really good news if it’s handled the right way. I’m looking forward to it, as usual. Check back here later for a commentary on the night.

1. P.S. I Love You. This romantic comedy starring Hillary Swank, Kathy Bates, Harry Connick, Jr. is among my favorites. The movie’s good, but the soundtrack is to die for. Some great modern Irish folk stuff. Read my review at Film Monthly. 11:05 AM CT HBO Comedy

2. The Ellen DeGeneres Show. Randy Jackson is on previewing the new season of American Idol, and self-help guru Wayne Dyer is on as well. Syndicated, check local listings.

3. A Mighty Wind. TVGuide.com calls this a “sharply tuned mockumentary,” starring Christopher Guest, and his usual group of costars Eugene Levy, Harry Shearer, Michael McKean, and Catherine O’Hara. This time they’re spoofing folk singers getting together for a live TV concert. 3:30 PM CT Comedy Central

4. NCIS. When Ducky is stabbed at a crime scene, the rest of the team learn secrets of his past during the investigation. 7:00 PM CT CBS

5. The Biggest Loser: Couples. On the second show of the new season, the remaining players, the ones that stuck around after nearly half left after the first week, will face their first temptations. Bob supposedly lets loose and has a big screaming match with one of his team members. You read that right. It’s Bob losing it this time, not Jillian. Look for my commentary on it tomorrow at Reality Shack. 7:00 PM CT NBC

6. Homeland Security USA. A man from Tennessee is questioned in Detroit about the human skull and handguns found in his van (personally, I wouldn’t want to know!), a legal loophole brings about the release of a drunk woman, an air traveler is stopped for carrying unmarked medication, and a Cuban woman is stopped trying to enter the U.S. via Washington state. 7:00 PM CT ABC

6. 90210. Annie and Dixon get a new car from Tabitha, who didn’t consult their mom first, Annie and Ethan then sneak off to Palm Springs, Adrianna tells her secret to Naomi, and Dixon surprises Silver on a beach trip. 7:00 PM CT Fox

7. American Idol. It’s supposed to be a little different this year. Let’s see how that works out. Tonight we start off in Phoenix. Look for a commentary here in this spot early tomorrow morning, and a recap tonight at Reality Shack. 7:00 PM CT Fox

8. The Mentalist. A self-proclaimed witch claims she cast a spell on the murdered high school football player after he killed her. 8:00 PM CT CBS

9. Scrubs. Kelso and Cox work together on trying to get rid of Dr. Maddox, and Carla wants to teach a lesson in humility to an egotistical intern. 8:00 PM CT ABC

10. Privileged. When Megan rushes to Lily, she insists she knows nothing abut the drugs that are found in her hotel room. Will wants to pay her bail, but Arthur thinks the jail time would do her good. Sage buys an expensive gift for Luis, and is surprised by the reaction. 8:00 PM CT CW

11. Scrubs. J.D. and Elliott have sparks flying between them when they join together to get Kelso to leave the coffee shop. 8:30 PM CT ABC

12. Without a Trace. Believe it or not, this is one of Lindsay Lohan’s favorite shows. She thinks Anthony LaPaglia is “boss.” 9:00 PM CT CBS

13. Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. When a teenager is found dead, Benson goes undercover to catch a sex trafficker, pretending to be a madam. She and the detectives learn the girl was a child prodigy, not a prostitute, prompting them to then turn their attention on her gambling-addict father. 9:00 PM CT NBC

14. Primetime: What Would You Do? The scenarios tonight include a date-rape drug in a woman’s drink, a man stealing gas at a gas station, shoppers with loaded carts cutting into the express lane, including a woman that cuts in, then becomes the “five-millionth customer.” 9:00 PM CT ABC

15. Tonight Show With Jay Leno. Tonight Jay’s guests are Mickey Rourke, assumably talking about his Golden Globe win, Toni Collette, and John Legend. 10:35 PM CT NBC
