What’s Hot On TV Tonight - Late Start to the Day

51q5py8k11l_aa280_.jpgOkay. I’m getting a late start here. I couldn’t stay awake for the life of me last night, then slept in today, followed by a lot of playing. Perhaps it was the Mojitos. Then I was trying to figure out which football playoff game was on now and my TV wasn’t matching what it said on tvguide.com. Now I realize I was looking at next Sunday, not today. Again, I’ll blame the Mojitos. Other than that it seems like primetime is back, done with those repeats that have plagued us, except for Fox that is choosing to replay the 24 special. A new dance show premieres as well. Superstars of Dance is the brainchild of the American Idol executive producers Nigel Lythgoe and Simon Fuller.

1. NFL Playoff: Eagles at Vikings. As a Bears fan, I really would have liked to have seen them in this instead of Minnesota. Since the Vikings didn’t finish strong, I’m not giving them a whole lot of hope here. 3:30 PM CT Fox

2. 60 Minutes. Tonight’s show includes reports on drunk-driving fatalities and the prosecutors who would like to introduce harsher penalties. This could be interesting. I know here in Illinois the laws got a little tougher at the beginning of the year, which is which I stayed home after my Mojitos. Also included will be how to read someone’s mind. Hmmm. 6:00 PM CT CBS

3. Saturday Night Live Sports Extra. Includes some of the better sports skits from the past thirty plus seasons of the show. It must be the Mojitos preempting me from thinking of any good examples. 6:00 PM CT NBC

4. America’s Funniest Home Videos. Trampoline mishaps, the destructive behavior of a dog (Marley?), and escapes of animals. 6:00 PM CT ABC

5. Million Dollar Password. Craig Ferguson and Serena Williams are the competing celebrities testing out their word skills with the contestants. I wonder if Ferguson will struggle a little as Phil Keogan did missing out on some of the cultural references that are more familiar to those of us that grew up here in the States. 7:00 PM CT CBS

6. Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. A home torn up by a tornado and owned by a corrections officer gets the full treatment from Ty and the team. The officer and his family vacation in Walt Disney World while they wait to move back in. 7:00 PM CT ABC

7. 24: Redemption. In case you missed this back in November, it’s back on tonight. Jack is working at a school in Africa trying to prevent a warlord from drafting kids into a marauding militia. A new president is inaugurated, and there’s an all new villain to chase in Jon Voigt. 7:00 PM CT Fox (time approx. after football)

8. Cold Case. A more recent murder, that of a mechanic who became a lottery winner before he was killed in 2007, is reinvestigated, and a roadblock develops in Valens and Frankie’s relationship. 8:00 PM CT CBS

9. Superstars of Dance. Superstars, literally from all over the world of dance, compete against each other in this show hosted by Michael Flatley and Susie Castillo. 8:00 PM CT NBC

10. Desperate Housewives. Looking for their sons’ affections, Bree clashes with Alex’s mom. Gaby wants Carlos to take a six-figure job, event hough it will keep him away from home more. Susan looks or company from Lee while Jackson is away, Lynette discovers Preston talking to Porter on the phone, and Edie is growing more tired of Dave who is still acting oddly. 8:00 PM CT ABC

11. Runaway Bride. I’m a johnny-come-lately when it comes to being a fan of Julia Roberts, but this one is my favorite. She reunites with Richard Gere, this time as a woman who has a problem with commitment, for an interesting twist on an all too familiar theme. 8:00 PM CT Showtime East

12. The Unit. Trying to win the services of a CIA spy, Jonas enters into a high-stakes poker game in order to get court martial charges against Bridget dropped. 9:00 PM CT CBS

13. Brothers & Sisters. Tension raises between Tommy and Kevin because of Elizabeth’s illness, Saul has a surprise for Nora that includes a face from the past, and Justin plans to move out of the family home. 9:00 PM CT ABC
