Momma’s Boys - Is That Momma for Real?
Perhaps I’m becoming too jaded of a reality TV viewer, but I just can’t view this with its intention. It’s supposed to piss people off, it seems, and does, but after watching the premiere of Momma’s Boys last night, I just have to ask if this lady is for real.
Granted, Momma’s Boys are interesting phenomena, so I gives Ryan Seacrest some credit for his newest add to his resume as executive producer of this show, and it’s well-understood that it’s supposed to be as campy as The Bachelor is romantic, but I have to ask if casting went too far casting people that would cause conflict purposely or if they coached this woman.
JoJo’s (can I also ask why an adult man is referred to as JoJo?) mom, Khalood, aka Mrs. B., went on a tirade in her introduction piece for the young women that will be seeking companionship with her JoJo. I just can’t see how anyone in their right mind would speak in that manner in a taped piece that not only would serve as her introduction to this whole pool of women, but would also serve as her introduction to all the television viewers.
Mrs. B. mentioned on the piece that black girls, Jewish girls, Asian girls, and girls of divorced parents, among others, wouldn’t be good enough for her son. She stressed she has many black friends, which is such a typical line, but they just weren’t good enough for her son. You would think someone with such disgust for other races would be a white supremacist or someone who had never had to endure racial stereotyping, but instead, she’s a product out of Iraq!
The girls weren’t happy with Mrs. B.’s comments at all, especially the black women. They immediately set plans of trying to spend time with JoJo just to upset Mrs. B. purposely. Then, within minutes of finally meeting, Mrs. B. and the black women end up in a shouting match with her again saying she has many black friends.
Since it’s the first night of the show, and Mrs. B.’s comments were promoted before the show started, along with a clip of JoJo in a pool kissing a black woman. Let me preface this with saying I hate when people walk around talking about reality shows not being “real” and being scripted, but c’mon! This person can’t be real, and if she is, she is soon going to take the place that Randy and Corinne have just vacated on Survivor: Gabon, that of having every viewer hate you.
I’m guessing that Mrs. B. has some tendencies in this area to not like many of the women her JoJo brings home, but that producers were sticking her in the back with a cattle prod or something getting her to say some of these nasty things. Otherwise, why would they have even cast her and JoJo on a show with women of all race and creed, yet along with two other “white boys” and their mommas.
I’ll watch the show another time and probably be pulled in by by the emotions displayed by the moms, being that I have a 15 year old son at home entering the dating world, but I’ll be doing it with one eye shut and my face screwed up the whole time, not totally believing what I’m seeing and hearing.
