25 Days of Christmas on ABC Family
Everyone has their favorite holiday specials, mostly ones that we all grew up with, whether it be How the Grinch Stole Christmas, Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, or Frosty the Snowman. For the past few years, ABC Family has been streamlining these a little, having the rights to most of them, and airing them during wha the month of December, leading up to Christmas, calling it the 25 Days of Christmas. You can find a full list here, but here are some highlights.
The first thing I’m noticing is a block scheduling thing going on. December 1st has a programming block of Dr. Seuss with The Lorax, The Hoober-Bloob Highway, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. A second Dr. Seuss programming block will air on December 18th, with The Cat In the Hat, The Lorax, and How the Grinch Stole Christmas. There’s also a Harry Potter scheduling block as they air Harry Potter and the Sorcer’s Stone, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, and Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire over three nights December 5th through 7th. Since when did Harry Potter became a Christmas movie? Similarly, why is CARS on the schedule? It’s not like they’re hurting for things to air here.
Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town (the one with the song Put One Foot In Front of the Other) will air December 10th after Micky’s Christmas Carol and Winnie the Pooh and Christmas Too. I’m not too sure about that, as those three just don’t seem to mix very well. The following night airs Rudolph’s Shiny New Year, The Year Without a Santa Claus (the one with the Heat Miser) and Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of Misfit Toys. The latter is not to be confused with the original Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer. It’s not the same.
We have a couple of brand new programs on the schedule with A Miser Brothers Christmas, as the fate of Christmas will hang in the balance, dependent on if Heat Miser and Snow Miser can get along. This airs on December 13th, and the following night Snow 2 Brain Freeze airs. This is a live action movie with Tom Cavanaugh starring as Nick Snowden who has an argument with his wife three days before Christmas and walks out through a magic mirror, as he’s apparently really Santa Claus and he ends up with amnesia. Christmas in Wonderland airs December 20th, an dis a live action film starring Patrick Swayze as a dad who moves his family from L.A. to Edmonton, only to lose his job and run out of money as his wife is still stuck in L.A.
The new programming sounds great, but I couldn’t help but feel like I was missing out on a few things. Normally the 25 Days of Christmas seems to cover everything I wait for every year. I wanted to know where the real Rudolph was. I found that that airs on December 3rd on CBS. And what about Frosty the Snowman and its more recent sequel with John Goodman? Those air on December 12th on CBS, with Frosty’s Winter Wonderland and Rudolph and Frosty’s Christmas in July airing on ABC Family.
I’ll be reminding everyone when these air again as I post my daily What’s Hot On TV Tonight lists, and if there’s a favorite you’re not seeing and would hate to miss it, leave a comment or Email Me
