Dancing With the Stars - All Going According to Plan

Just as it was assumed, young Cody Linley was the latest star to leave Dancing With the Stars, leaving a final three to compete in next week’s finale of Brooke Burke, Warren Sapp, and Lance Bass. That kid showed us a lot the past few months, so I’m personally hoping there are bigger things for him on the horizon.

Cody isn’t one of those stars that seems older than his years. He is a young guy and seemed like a young guy. There were constant reminders with how he couldn’t settle down in the beginning, and always wanting to goof around with partner Julianne Hough more than anything else. He has a youthful exuberance that is entirely engaging, and the way his emotions pulled us in last week, crying over how much he cares for Julianne, just pulled us all in more and reminded us he’s not really a man yet. He’s still a boy.

With his young age, Cody probably wasn’t even all too sure who guest performer Aretha Franklin is, unless he grew up in a house that loves oldies but goodies. Yes, I realize there were other performers on last night, but after the Queen of Soul, no one else really counts, other than Julianne Hough finally getting a chance to show her singing chops on the show that made her a dancing standout. By the way, a quick age check shows me Aretha is closer in age to Susan Lucci than Cloris Leachman at 66.

IMDB shows that Cody has one upcoming film on the horizon, Forget Me Not, a thriller that offers him a starring role. I want more for him, though, and I’m also hoping fellow celebrity dancer Lance Bass has filled him in on the trials and tribulations of attaining great fame at a young age. That’s, of course, providing he hasn’t learned enough from his Hanna Montana costar Miley Cyrus, who incidentally will appear on the finale next Tuesday. I’m hoping she brings her dad to do a dance step or two, as he’s another I grew to love watching him dance every week.

As for who will win next week, I’m not as sold on it being Brooke Burke next week as it once was. She’s still the best technician on the dance floor this season, but she showed her limitations this week. Warren Sapp will continue to be flat-footed but entirely entertaining and Lance Bass will continue to do both, be technically not too bad and entertaining as well. If he and Lacey Schwimmer play their cards right, they might end up pulling the win right out from under Brooke and Derek.

Oh how I would love to see Lance and Lacey win. For Lacey, this would be especially sweet since she was a runner-up on So You Think You Can Dance. Plus, I agree Brooke Burke may be more technically proficient than Lance, but she bores me.
