Dancing With the Stars - Some Excitement to Go With Our Expected Results
Tonight’s results for Dancing With the Stars ended just as we thought they would, with Cody Linley and Maurice Greene being in the bottom two. They’re both great dancers, and each scored equally on their dances, no less than 8s from any of the judges for either dance, but it just doesn’t match up to Brooke Burke’s technical superiority or Warren Sapp’s and Lance Bass’ excitement.
However, despite the expected results, we had a few other exciting moments. First, and most importantly, Julianne Hough was back! While we were told she’d be back and performing, I thought there was no way she’d be dancing a week-and-a-half after surgery for endometriosis. A singer as well, I figured she’d be on the show singing, yet brother Derek came out for a dance in that spot they have reserved for dancing stars, sponsored by Macy’s. He surprised us, though, going behind the open lid of a piano and reappearing dancing next to her. They were both great, but it was hard to stop ogling Julianne wondering how she was doing all that so soon after surgery.
The Houghs weren’t the only siblings performing on the show, as Lacey Schwimmer brought over her brother Benji, doing a great country and western inspired dance. He has such a great spirit about him, making it hard not to watch him and cheer him on. They were fantastic together and definitely brought that different So You Think You Can Dance feel into the show. After Derek appeared one time in a dance, he was a regular on the show the next season as a pro. Can we hope to see the same with Benji? Or is he above that as a former winner of So You Think You Can Dance?
In a very prepared, canned emotions type of way, we also had Dr. Drew Pinsky offering relationship advice to the dancing couples on the show this season, which could have been comforting to them after all the illnesses and injuries this season, not to mention the fights from last week. It still seemed canned, but what seemed to be raw emotion was interesting coming out of Cody. He and Julianne met with Dr. Drew, and when he mentioned her illness, Cody broke down crying over how much he cares for her. Who would have thought we would have seen that?
Luckily for Cody, he’ll have another week to dance with Julianne, as she comes back to the show to dance with him next week, putting Edyta back out to pasture. I kid about that, as I seem to like Edyta Sliwinska more than some others. I think they’ll probably only have one more week together on the show, but I think that’s all they need to set it all right again. Maurice was gracious in his dismissal, and was a great dancer, but was just missing that spark with Cheryl Burke.
