What’s Hot On TV Tonight - A Lack of Good Scary Movies

Published by laurabelle at 12:10 am under Programming Edit This

scary-movie.jpgMy plan here, the Saturday before Halloween was to come up with some good scary movies, a real fright fest. But it’s definitely slim pickings as far as that goes. You’ll have to make due with a thriller, a parody, and some good comedies. Other than that, we also have the World Series on tonight, which could be frightening, depending on which team you’re rooting for.

1. Sixteen Candles. I’ve mentioned it here before, but I can just never get enough of this movie. The whole idea of the movie is fun, and once you add in all the great quotes, it’s simply one of my top five . We’ve totally adopted Long Duck Dong’s sayings from when he’s drunk. Every time we’re hungry with a hangover, we say, “Donger … need … food.” 10:30 AM CT Retro

2. Fracture. This thriller stars Anthony Hopkins as a man trying to get away with murder. He makes it into a game to see if the detectives can figure it out, practically daring them. I think Hopkins is just a scary type of guy to begin with, and the perfect guy for a Halloween film fest. 12:00 PM CT HBO2 East

3. Overboard. My best friend and I always repeat quotes from this movie. “I was a short … fat … slut.” Goldie Hawn stars as a rich bitch that infuriates a carpenter (Kurt Russell). Once he sees she has fallen overboard of her yacht and is suffering amnesia, he convinces her he’s his wife, and forces her to do a bunch of chores around the house and take care of his kids (”We have a falsetto child?”), trying got get back the money he feels she owes him. 4:30 PM CT A&E

4. Scary Movie. If you want to get in the Halloween mood, but just don’t want to be scared out of your gourd, this spoof of scary movies is a good one. 6:00 PM CT Comedy Central

5. America’s Toughest Jobs. It’s the season finale with the final four repeating three of their more difficult jobs, logging, oil rigging, and crab fishing, to determine a winner. The grand prize? The combined salary of all jobs featured during the season. 7:00 PM CT NBC

6. College Football: Penn State at Ohio State.
A Big 10 matchup, Penn State has all the tools right now with both a good defense and offense, while Ohio State has struggled some, however has won seven straight against Penn State, including last year. 7:00 PM CT ABC

7. World Series: Game 3: Rays at Phillies. Tampa Bay evened out the series at 1-1, but now they have to travel away from home to Philadelphia. 7:00 PM CT Fox

8. Summer School. Okay, I was trying to make a spook fest for this last Saturday before Halloween, but this is simply a great unsung movie. Mark Harmon stars as a teacher that gets stuck teaching summer school to a bunch of kids that don’t want to be there any more than he does. He finds a way to inspire them, though, and make the best of it. Starring Mark Harmon and directed by Carl Reiner. 7:30 PM CT HBO Family

9. 48 Hours Mystery. Under investigation is a doctor that is suspected of killing another doctor. Doctor heal thyself becomes doctor defend thyself. 9:00 PM CT CBS

10. Saturday Night Live. There’s only so many weeks until the election, so the show better make the best of their Sarah Palin skits now. Jon Hamm guest hosts and Coldplay is the musical guest 10:35 PM CT NBC
