Survivor - Why Is Ace Still There?
Why is the trouble with Fang obvious to everyone but them? Every week they do the most confusing things, which make me at first feel bad for them that they lost again, but then by the end I’m thinking they deserved it.
They started off down one person after voting out G.C. last week. They voted him out, just because he wanted to quit, don’t forget, even though they all knew Sugar had the Immunity Idol in her bag. So now they’re down one strong guy, while they still have Kelly who can’t seem to do anything in any challenge. On top of it, they’re about out of food after G.C. refused to eat less than three squares a day, and they’re probably all wishing they had Gillian and her elephant dung snacks back.
Once at the reward challenge, they were just outnumbered from the get go. Sure they had an even number of players with Corinne sitting out, but they had two strong guys and Crystal, while Kota had Dan, Charlie, Marcus, Randy, and Bob. While they lost Suzy, Fang lost Kenny, Sugar, and Kelly. Fang was going quicker after they lost their dead weight, but there was no way those three could keep up that pace against the five on the other team. And once Crystal dropped out her third of the heavy snake, Ace and Matty just couldn’t do it alone.
Ace wants Sugar to think it’s just those two to the end, yet creates a secret connection with Matty. Ace knew he and Sugar became big targets knowing that the others probably went through Sugar’s bag and new she now had the Idol. He then convinces her to give it to him to keep it safe, which was … just dumb. Because the others snooped and knew she had it, now she should leave it with him in case they snoop again? They don’t need to snoop again. They know she has it. This was all more of an effort to keep him safe.
At the immunity challenge, it was Sugar and Kelly that just couldn’t get it done. They lost so much time. It was Crystal and Ace that brought them back to being close, and Kenny and Matty who got ahead. But again, it came down to not being able to work together, as Ace insisted on putting the flag pole together himself and couldn’t figure it out, refusing to give it up to someone that could. Had he not done that, there’s a good chance they’d all be safe.
With their loss, that meant they needed to figure out who would go home. Matty and Ace had already had their agreement to not only not vote for each other, but keep one other person safe as well. Matty chose Kenny, and Ace of course chose Sugar. Ace wanted Kelly out, as she was positively inept. Yet, he’s trying to take the heat off of Sugar and himself having the Idol in doing that. While you need to get rid of non-performing people on a team, it’s so close to the merge, that you also need to worry about getting rid of people before the merge, and a guy that has potential to win, but isn’t a team player is a guy to get out now, especially if he has a connection tot he Idol.
Ace is a prime candidate for those you want to leave before the merge. It took Kenny the gamer to figure this out. He knows his strategy, and I think he knew he couldn’t get it worked out to vote out Ace this week, so thinks he’ll do it next week, as he told Sugar to get the Idol back and not let it go again. He’s working on something; we know him.
Yet, you don’t know when you’ll get another chance. He obviously couldn’t get the 4-2 votes against Ace this week. The problem is, he might not get that chance next week. After Kelly was voted out, the previews told us one person from each team would be leaving next week, and we see suggestions for who to vote out, then see Sugar saying Kenny thinks Crystal is leaving, and Crystal thinks Kenny is leaving, and three of the people will be voting for Crystal. She is not who needs to go.
Yet, Mark Burnett never plays his hand that way in editing. He didn’t just show us who would be leaving and only wants us to think all week that’s who’s leaving. I think it won’t be either one of them, as we wouldn’t need to watch the show them. I think it’ll be Ace or Sugar.
