The Bachelorette - Why Stop There, Trista?
The news hit this week, after an article in Life & Style, that Trista and Ryan Sutter, ABC’s The Bachelor/Bachelorette franchise’s only successfully married couple, are pregnant for the second time after trying for much less time than the two years spent trying to conceive their first child, son Max, who was born July 26, 2007.
For me, the real story isn’t that she’s pregnant agian, or even the small time spent trying to conceive this time. The real story is in Trista’s admitted future plans. Just a few months into her second pregnancy, Trista admits in the interview that she and Ryan are looking into adoption, as she’s thinking of having her tubes tied. Why, if you’re thinking of having more children, are you considering adoption?
It’s not like she’s Maddona or Angelina Jolie and wanting to save some poor third world child. She fails to mention that angle at all. And if that was the case, you’d state that as your reason for wanting to adopt. No, her reason is because she wants to get her tubes tied. Why do you do that if you’re wanting more kids?
It should be noted that within this same article in Life & Style, Trista also said she thought she’d be happy with her life if she hadn’t been able to get pregnant again. “This new baby will just add a little bit more life and spirit and happiness and fun!” Yet, you still want to get your tubes tied?
I’ve just never known anyone to get their tubes tied when they want more children. It’s not that I’m against it at all; I just don’t understand the reasons for doing it at this point in her life when she admits she wants more children, especially when conceiving had been so difficult for them the first time. For all I know there’s a medical reason for it, but then why not say that?

probably because of her age and she had a very complicated pregnancy the first time.
The age makes sense. I didn’t realize she was as old as she was. I do wonder why she didn’t elaborate on that in the article.
I could be wrong but I’m guessing you (the author) are a man. I had my third child at 37 and its was a LOT harder than when I had my first child at a much younger age. Trista is 36 so its totally understandable that while she may want more children, she may not necessary want to go through another pregnancy. Besides, the world is full of unwanted children so why not adopt a child that desperately needs a home instead of adding another body to this overcrowded planet of ours?
Yes, you are wrong. I’m a 44 year old mother of two. I had my first child at 29 and my second at 33. As I stated above, I didn’t know she was in her late 30s. Nevertheless, it was still an odd statement for her not to elaborate on. There is no way I would give birth to a child at an older age, but along with that, I also don’t want to raise a child at an older age. I can’t imagine running after a toddler right now.
She had a very complicated pregnancy that was almost fatal (HLAP i think)-look up the story on the web. Thats why she wants to get her tubes tied…do the research.
