What’s Hot On TV Tonight - Drama, Drama, Drama!
While I’m starting my day off with a great fun, comedy movie in Weekend at Bernie’s, we’re ending primetime tonight with three dramas, two of them series premieres. No only do we have our second ER of their death watch season, we also have two new dramas in Eleventh Hour and Life on Mars. Both look good, but I’m DVRing Life on Mars to watch after ER.
1. Weekend at Bernie’s - This movie just never fails to crack me up, no matter how many times I’ve seen it before. It’s just silly fun watching Andrew McCarthy and Jonathan Silverman drag a dead body around. When he falls out of the boat and his head is hitting the buoy, it gets to me every time. 12:00 PM CT 5StarMax
2. The Bonnie Hunt Show. Her guests include George Lopez, star of Beverly Hills Chihuahua, Cat Cora, the first female American Iron Chef, and Jonathan Burkin, the baton-twirling teenager from America’s Got Talent. I’m glad to see him getting his due somewhere other than AGT. He deserves it. Syndicated, check local listings.
3. The Ellen deGeneres Show. Harry Connick, Jr., promoting the timely TV movie Living Proof on Lifetime about a doctor that devotes his life to finding a cure for breast cancer, child tennis prodigies, and Chris Brown stops by to give Ellen a dance lesson. Syndicated, check local listings.
4. Survivor: Gabon - Earth’s Last Eden. It’s kind of early for this, but the tribes must rank the tribemates in order of importance. Normally we don’t see that type of thing, and not nearly as bluntly, until a challenge after the merge. On a team like Fang where they struggled with leadership, this could be interesting. 7:00 PM CT CBS
2. My Name Is Earl. Earl tries to help out a stuntman, but his permanent injuries make it difficult. Joy buys a gun after a carjacking. David Arquette guest stars. 7:00 PM CT NBC
3. Ugly Betty. Betty tries to tell a police officer about an accident that surprises everyone at Mode. Ignacio learns interesting information about Hilda and Coach Diaz. Mark Conseulos (aka Mr. Kelly Ripa) guest stars. 7:00 PM CT ABC
4. Smallville. A queen from another planet arrives on Earth, being brought here accidentally by Tess. She thinks her soulmate summoned her, though, and makes it her mission to find him. 7:00 PM CT CW
5. MLB Playoff Game 1. Dodgers at Phillies. Somehow neither Chicago team could make it this far, but good luck to Los Angels and Philadelphia. 7:00 PM CT Fox
6. Kath & Kim. Series premiere of a dysfunctional mother and daughter, with the daughter moving back in with the mother. Selma Blair and Molly Shannon star. NBC’s lineup certainly doesn’t seem like the old Must See TV, does it? 7:30 PM CT NBC
7. CSI: Crime Scene Investigation. It’s a season opener, and Grissom and the others are in shock finding out that Warren has been shot. Investigating, they find a surprising secret about him. Sara returns to help. 8:00 PM CT CBS
8. The Office. After Ryan’s corporate scandal, Holly conducts a business ethics meeting which becomes chaotic when Michael allows the staff to speak openly about the what goes wrong in the workplace. 8:00 PM CT NBC
9. Grey’s Anatomy. The chief tries out new teaching methods, and George retries his residency exam as a plumbing-related flood causes major problems at the hospital. Surprising Meredith, Derek wants her roommates out of the house. 8:00 PM CT ABC
10. Supernatural. Sam and Dean find a man with a mysterious flesh-eating infection that changes him into a monster. Sam thinks reason will work to change the man’s new instincts, but Dean thinks it would be more human to just kill him. It actually sounds like an interesting case of morals. 8:00 PM CT CW
11. Saturday Night Live Weekend Update Thursday. The Not-Ready-for-Primetime Players have finally been made ready for primetime. However, I think it’s basically a clip show. 8:30 PM CT NBC
12. Forrest Gump. “Life is like a box of chocolates. You never know what you’re gonna get.” Unless you read What’s Hot On TV Tonight daily, then you’ll know exactly what you’ll get every night on TV. How’s that for a little self-PR? 8:00 PM CT HBO Signature
13. Eleventh Hour. Series premiere of a biophysicist that solves scientific crimes for the F.B.I. Tonight, the evidence gathered suggests there is someone out there attempting to clone humans as nineteen buried bodies all seem to have the exact same DNA. 9:00 PM CT CBS
14. ER. The ER is on guard as Gates has the new interns treating a terrorist. The tough new doctor (Angela Bassett) puts everyone else on the defensive. Not that this ER hasn’t seen plenty of tough doctors throughout the years. 9:00 PM CT NBC
15. Life On Mars. This new series looks like it could be a really good one. After ER takes the long walk to the hospital waiting room in the sky, maybe this one can replace it on my Thursday night schedule. A cop from the present day wakes up after a car accident back in 1973, still a cop. He helps the cops there solve crimes while trying to get back home. It’s based on a similar series on the BBC. 9:00 PM CT ABC
16. Late Show With David Letterman. Bill Murray is on promoting his movie City of Ember that opens tomorrow. Beck is in as well. 10:35 PM CT CBS
17. Tonight Show With Jay Leno. Mark Wahlberg is on promoting his movie that opens next week, Max Payne. Also appearing are Rachel Meadow and Rachael Yamagata. It’s the Rachel hour, I guess. 10:35 PM CT NBC
18. Late Night With Conan O’Brien. Dennis Quaid is on promoting The Express, opening tomorrow. Also appearing are Lance Mackey and Sarah McLachlan. 11:35 PM CT NBC
