Dancing With the Stars - Father vs. Son at Elimination
It seemed to me tonight while watching the Dancing With the Stars results show that they were trying to shove something down our throats. They showed a long montage of all the celebrities backstage supposedly getting along with each other. They can’t just insert that in to create that kind of atmosphere.
Those of us that have seen the other seasons of the show know what true camaderie is like on the show. Granted, it’s still early in the season, but if it’s to early to have those bonds with each other, then why throw these people together in a taped bit pretending like they have a deep connection with each other already?
In seasons past, when a couple would come off the stage to talk to Samantha Harris, the others would goof with them while they were on camera or all congratulate them after a particularly good routine. Instead, we had Lacey Schwimmer and Lance Bass poking their heads into the camera view goofing off, paying no attention to Samantha and who she was talking to. Usually when a couple is voted out, there are tears all around, but not the past few weeks.
I keep talking about how great it is to have all these bigger celebrities on this year instead of just one or two and a bunch of B, C, and D list celebrities. Is this our tradeoff? Do we get people that are more well-known to us, yet aren’t going to bond with each other only being worried about themselves?
Part of the fun of the show was watching all these celebrities inter-relate with each other, but now our fun is watching Cloris Leachman do and say anythng she wants to anyone she wants. And this week, that was taken away from us as well. Either she felt a need to be embarrassed or Corky Ballas was hammering at her that they had to be serious to get better scores.
Either way, they get the same low scores, so she may as well do what she wants and thoroughly entertain us, as we didn’t have intermingling celebs or goofy Cloris. Cloris and Corky had the lowest scores last night, and Rocco deSpirito/Karina Smirnoff and Kim Kardashian/Mark Ballas filled up the final three. I was worried about Cloris and Corky not making it through to entertain us another day, even more so after Rocco and Karina were declared safe.
They always remind us that the last two couples remaining onstage aren’t necessarily the bottom two, but that one of them is leaving. Tonight it seemed the cruelest of cruel, as while we don’t have any connection to be found between the celebrities, the only true connections are father and son, Corky and Mark Ballas, and husband and wife, Alec Mazo and Edyta Slawinska. Father and son were half of the last two couples onstage and one would be forced to leave. What do you wish for as a parent, to stay and have your child leave or to leave and have your child stay?
When the votes were read, it was the younger Ballas with Kim Kardashian that left. And the celebrities somewhat connected after, but who really connected was Mark and Corky hugging forever. They didn’t need to fake that they would miss each other.
