What’s Hot On TV Tonight - 60th Primetime Emmy Awards
It’s a big night for TV tonight, the 60th Primetime Emmy Awards. I will be glued, watching every moment, even the boring awards. I’m always afraid I’ll miss something. It’ll be interesting to see what people choose to watch the hour before the Emmys start, 60 Minutes with John McCain and Barack Obama, or Jimmy Kimmel interviewing Emmy people. Sorry CBS. ABC wins me over with yet another hour of Emmy hoopa.
1. Top Gun. I don’t care how many times I’ve seen this movie and how overly sappy it is in this part, I always cry when Goose bites it. From the time Maverick finds him in the water to when Maverick gets his dog tags from Meg Ryan. “Say Goose! Take me to bed or lose me forever!” 5:30 AM CT HBO Zone
2. Freedom Writers. This is an amazing film of an amazing teacher that refused to give up on her inner city students. She taught them the similarities between their plight and that of Anne Frank’s, and through that, inspired them to write in journals of their own. It’s just an amazing story of an educator, played by Hilary Swank. 7:30 AM CT Showtime Next
3. Sunday Morning. Pretty inventive name, huh? Featured this morning are Julia Louis-Dreyfuss who will be presenting an award on tonight’s Emmys along with Hugh Laurie, as well as a tribute to classic TV theme songs. Thanks. Now I’ll be singing a collection of them throughout the day. You’d think the Cheers theme song would be the first on my mind, but no. Oddly it’s Maude. Anything but tranquilizing, right on Maude. 8:00 AM CT CBS
4. Revenge of the Nerds I want to know who the programming genius is that put this on against football? What an irony! 12:00 PM CT Cinemax East
5. NFL Football: Buccaneers at Bears. Somehow my beloved Chicago Bears lost last weekend. The game was definitely in their grasp, and they let it get away from them, leaving them at 1-1. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have the same record after losing at New Orleans and winning against Atlanta. It’ll be interesting to see QB Brian Griese who had played with the Bears in his two year stint away from the Bucs, playing against the Bears. It could be a tough one, but I’m going to give the edge to the Bears. 12:00 PM CT Fox
6. NFL Football: Panthers at Vikings. This will be another interesting one. The Minnesota Vikings are winless, so you would thinking it would be easy for the 2-0 Carolina Panthers, but they weren’t looking good against Chicago last week until they suddenly woke up. I’ll take Carolina for the win, though, even in the Metrodome. 12:00 PM CT Fox
7. NFL Football: Steelers at Eagles. The Pittsburgh Steelers are 2-0, and the Philadelphia Eagles 1-1, with their win a blowout and loss a close one. I’d love to take the Eagles on this, but checking stats, the Steelers are 13-2 against the NFC. What the heck? I’m a bettin’ woman. I’ll take the Eagles anyway. 3:15 PM CT CBS
8. NASCAR Racing: Sprint Cup in Dover, Del. Kyle Busch won here back in June, and is currently eighth in the standings. It was a good showing that day for the Chase drivers. How will they do today? 1:00 PM CT ABC
9. 60 Minutes. Both John McCain and Barack Obama are interviewed and discuss everything you want to know from the economy to the war. And I’m pretty sure Sarah Palin will be a topic of discussion as well. 6:00 PM CT CBS (Time approximate after football)
10. Jimmy Kimmel’s Big Night of Stars. A pre-Emmy kind of thing, Kimmel interviews Selma Hayek, Tracey Morgan, and Michael Phelps, as well as the Emmy hosts which not so coincidentally are the nominees for Outstanding Reality/Competition Host, Tom Bergeron, Heidi Klum, Howie Mandel, Jeff Probst, and Ryan Seacrest. Personally, I would have added Phil Keoghan and Cat Deeley to the list. 6:00 PM CT ABC
11. 60th Primetime Emmy Awards. Special moments and quotes of the last sixty years can be expected, as well as the winner of the Most Memorable TV Moment that fans have been voting for online. If you’re recording it either on VHS or DVR, don’t forget to go a little over, just in case. You don’t want to miss the big awards at the end after sitting through all that filler. 7:00 PM CT ABC
12. Sunday Night Football: Cowboys and Packers. This could end up being the game of the week. Dallas Cowboys are 2-0 and the Favre-less Packers are 2-0 as well. Then again, Dallas has played Cleveland and Philadelphia, while the Packers have played Detroit and Minnesota. Last year the Cowboys beat the Packers in the Thanksgiving game, but Charles Woodson is still nursing a toe injury that was nagging him last week. I think I have to take Dallas in this one. 7:15 PM CT NBC

I’ve been less than enthused by all the pre Emmy hoopla this year, and with the television season being what it was last year I don’t know if I’m tuning in tonight for the awards.
