What’s Hot On TV - Pleading For Some Football

09000d5d80a9d84e_gallery_600.jpgWe’re a football family here. My son was scheduled to play in two separate Sophomore games Friday night and Saturday. I missed Friday night’s game due to TPing with the cheerleaders, then Saturday’s game was called off due to too much flooding in our area. The boys were filling sandbags instead. Now Sunday’s game where my daughter was due to cheerlead and my husband due to coach, our Homecoming game, has been called off for the same reason. Hopefully I’ll at least get to see the Chicago Bears play the Carolina Panthers. The Houston Texans and the Baltimore Ravens won’t be playing either because of the hurricane. They’re switching their bye weeks around which will also affect the Cincinnati Bengals. I’m ready for some football, so let’s kick it!

1. The Fly. This Jeff Goldblum remake is great for reminding us just why it’s disgusting to have flies landing on our food. If you haven’t eaten breakfast yet, skip this. 10:10 AM CT HBO Zone

2. NFL Football: Chicago Bears at Carolina Panthers. The Bears are off to a good start at 1 and 0, and as they mentioned this week, playing the Panthers always makes for a good game. The Bears won big against the Colts last week, and the Panthers narrowly beat the Chargers. Thankfully the game is a home game for Carolina, because right now much of the Chicago area is in danger of flooding. 12:00 PM CT Fox

3. NFL Football: Indianapolis Colts at Minnesota Vikings. Surprisingly, both of these teams are 0 and 1. The Vikings were looking to dominate the NFC Central with a weakened Favre-less Green Bay Packers, yet lost to the Packers in week one. The Colts were a little surprised to leave their stadium last week with a loss to a team no one thought would dominate the NFC Central this season, the Chicago Bears. One way or another, one of these two teams has to come out with a win this week. 12:00 PM CT CBS

4. NFL Football: New England Patriots at New York Jets. People will be watching the Jets all season with their additon of Brett Favre. And the Patriots aren’t looking to be much of a force with Tom Brady out for the season. His replacement is Matt Cassel, a guy who hasn’t started a game since high school. That’s right, high school. So the high school QB is facing off against Brett Favre? 3:15: PM CT CBS

5. Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen. I’ve been a little afraid to watch this movie, thinking it would be too realistic to what goes on in my home. Looking at it now, I’m wondering if Lindsay Lohan enjoyed it so much she just decided to stay a drama queen. Sometimes I wonder if she’s in the news today because the things she does are noteworthy, or whether it’s because she is trying to make herself be noteworthy. 12:00 PM CT ABC Family

6. Some Kind of Wonderful. I talk a lot about my 80s movies on these lists, and this is in my top three. Eric Stoltz stars as a guy that is hung up on one of the most popular girls in town. My favorite line is, “Dad, I like art, I work in a gas station, my best friend is a tomboy. These things don’t fly too well in the American high school.” I didn’t like art, didn’t work in a gas station, and my best friend wasn’t a tomboy, but somehow he pinned down my high school experience to a T. 1:10 PM CT Cinemax West

7. 60 Minutes. An interview with Supreme Court Justic Antonin Scalia doesn’t sound too interesting, but what does is an investigation into “flawed science” that has been used to convict a suprising number of defendants. 6:00 PM CT CBS (Time approx. after football)

8. Big Brother 10. Now that we have our final two established, it’s all over but the final vote … and tonight. There hasn’t been much going on since Jerry left, according to the live feeds and Big Brother: After Dark. The jury has posed their questions to the final two, but I’m not sure if we’ll see that tonight, or if we’ll wait until Tuesday. TVGuide.com says tonight’s show will be looking back on the whole season, and Yahoo has the final three jockeying for position which we know already aired on Thursday, so we know that’s wrong. 7:00 PM CT CBS (TIme approx. after football)

9. Lockdown. I had a chance to interview the producer of this show , and his views on not only the show, but also the prison system in our country as it is, were fascinating. This episode makes it even a little more interesting, as it shows an ex-con trying to start his life over on the outside. 8:00 PM CT National Geographic Channel

10. Goodfellas. Hey, it’s not an 80s movie! It came out in 1990! It’s my most favorite mob movie ever, and the soundtrack is among the best as well. Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, and Robert DeNiro are fantastic actors on their own, and together they just make you sit back and say wow. It’s like they took the life of a typical “real” mobster, cut it open, examined it, and showed it for what it was. Brilliant. 9:00 PM CT Lifetime Movie Network
