What’s Hot On TV Today: Are You Ready For Some Football?

Published by laurabelle at 10:00 am under Programming Edit This

b_favre_080816_qt.jpgIt’s a beautiful day here in Chicago. It’s 9:30 AM and only 54 degrees. You know what that means on a Sunday, don’t you? It means it’s football weather. I’ll be sitting in the bleachers watching my husband coach and my daughter cheerlead for a local kids’ team, but for the rest of you, there’s a lot of opening day football action this afternoon.

1. NFL Football. It’s too early in the season for me to tell which teams are good. It makes football pools really tough, and turns it into a guessing game more than anything else. But I know that everyone will want to see Brett Favre with his new team the New York Jets as they face off against the Miami Dolphins. We also have some interesting matchups with Kansas City Chiefs traveling to New England and Jacksonville Jaguars traveling to Tennessee. We’ll have to wait until tomorrow night to see how the Packers fair without Favre. 12:00 CT CBS and Fox

2. NBC Fall Preview 2008. For those of you itching to know what new shows wil be on NBC this season, check this out. Hosted by Zachary Levi of Chuck, it’ll feature the new shows as well as what you can expect from returning shows. I just want to see and hear more about Christian Slater’s new show My Own Worst Enemy. 12:30 CT NBC

3. Sunday Night Football: Bears at Colts. Here’s the football I’ll make sure I’m home to see. I will not miss my Chicago Bears. They didn’t have the best preseason, but ended on a good note. This is their chance for a rematch against the team that beat them in the Super Bowl two years ago. 6:00 CT NBC

4. 60 Minutes. Morley Safer is profiling Alec Baldwin. I’m interested to see if they just talk acting, or if they get into talking about how messed up all the Baldwin brothers seem to be lately, including Alec’s totally inappropriate call to his daughter last year. 6:00 (time approximate after football) CBS

5. Samurai Girl. I’ve caught the first few installments of this show already. A young girl is sent to America for a prearranged marriage by her father, forcing her to leave her brother behind. Just before the nuptials take place, all hell breaks loose, and this pretty young girl breaks out some serious martial arts skills fighting off the ninjas. Think Wendy Wu: Homecoming Warrior, but much heavier and much more teenage drama. Several episodes starting at 3:00, with new episodes beginning at 6:00 ABC Family

6. Play It Back: 70s Game Shows. Like all those old game shows? On summer breaks from school, I watched ‘em all. Match Game, Family Feud, etc. Caroline Rhea hosts this look back at all those shows. 6:00 CT Game Show Network

7. Big Brother. It’s getting down to the nitty gritty on this show as we’re down to the final four. Dan won the final HoH, so he has to put up one of his alliance along with Jerry. Who’s he going to put up? Memphis or Keesha? 7:00 (time approximate after football) CBS.

8. 2008 Video Music Awards. Like usual, the pomp and circumstance surrounding this show will be much more interesting than the actual awards. Britney Spears is scheduled to open the show. Will her appearance be as much of a train wreck as last year? Katy Perry, artist with the hit I Kissed a Girl, is scheduled to sing Like a Virgin. Rumors have said that Perry might be kissing a girl tonight, and it could be Lindsay Lohan. Kanye West, after saying last year he’d never return to the show, will close it this year. 8:00 CT MTV

9. America United: In Support of Our Troops. This will be pretty much like the VMAs, as far as lots of stars, but will be much more conservative. Prefer kissing girls or Jessica Simpson talking about boyfriend Tony Romo being the love of her life? Your choice. Also appearing are Snoop Dogg, Janet Jackson, Toby Keith, ZZ Top, Pamela Anderson, and Jordin Sparks. 8:00 CT ABC
