Three Cheers for Valerie Bertinelli
I always have to appreciate a woman that is comfortable with her size and isn’t going to bow down to the pressures that society or the entertainment world place on her.
Valerie Betinelli is coming out in support of former Jenny Craig spokesperson, Kirstie Alley. Alley had left the program last February, announcing plans to introduce her own weight-loss program, yet when pictures surfaced of her looking heavier than when she was fully supportive of the Jenny Craig system, tongues wagged that perhaps all of this was simply because she gained the weight back.
Bertinelli denies this, saying she has seen Alley in person, and she thinks she still looks just as fabulous. While she has heard of the existence of the pictures, she has only seen a few of them, anddisagrees with the rumors, saying, “When I have been with Kirstie, she looks terrific.”
After losing 40 pounds with Jenny Craig, in addition to the weight of being rocker Eddie Van Halen’s wife after their divorce, Bertinelli says she is comfortable with her current size. She is not a size 0 and never will be. She furthers this, saying, “I am between a six and an eight. In the business that I am in, that is heavy, but I am comfortable …. I am not going to be told what I have to weigh by society or by what glamour magazines tell you.”
How refreshing it would be if more celebrities, both young and old, were to stand in support of this, instead of falling to what amounts to no more than peer pressure, the same thing that young teenage girls looking up to them do.
