Big Brother 10 - The Apple Pie House

bb08-housed0019.jpgWhile CBS isn’t revealing the ins and outs of this upcoming season’s Big Brother until Friday on The Early Show, they already have a clip of Julie Chen touring the house up on cbs.com. Here’s what these previously announced thirteen contestants will be living in.

Walking up to the faux outside of the house, Julie Chen announces it looks just like apple pie. I’m not exactly sure what she’s going for, but it seems she meant it was very wholesome-looking, and those of us that watch this show know what goes on inside is anything less than wholesome.

The ages of the cast this season are spread out between 22 and 75, and we have been told the interior is to match these different genres. Yet, we don’t seem to match their genres specifically, but a few key ones. While the outside looks apple pie, so does the kitchen, looking very retro. It’s decked out in chrome and bright red, and it seems like we should expect to see Mrs. Cleaver popping in at any moment. Of all the odd things to point out, Julie took a fake sundae out of the freezer. One lone fake sundae was residing in there along with the ice cube trays. I don’t know if that’s one of the cute little things that comes with the fridge when you see it on display or what. I wish she would have opened the fridge door to see if there was more fake food in there.

bb08-housed0198.jpgOne bedroom is 70s flower children, with lava lamps and half of an old VW bus sticking out of the wall. I rode in a carpool in the 70s in such a vehicle, so I’ll always be looking behind the steering wheel there, to see if I recognize anyone in there. We also have a waterbed which Julie proved was so by bouncing around on it and staring at us suggestively in a truly odd uncomfortable moment.

In another room, it’s all decked out in pink and ruffles. It’s so disgustingly pink, that not only can I not see any guys wanting to sleep in there, I can’t see any girls wanting to sleep in there either. It looks like a 4 year old girl’s bedroom. Sitting somewhat out of place on a bedpost is a Daniel Boone hat. That’s obviously the 75-year-old’s genre.

The other bedroom is decked out 80s memorabilia, with a lot of black leather, a pair of Devo sunglasses, and even Devo flower pot hats on the lamps. Julie, of course, wore the Devo sunglasses, and I was so wishing she would have put a flower pot on her head. I would have rather seen that than her leering at me from the waterbed.

bb08-housed0358.jpgJulie showed an interest in toilets, as she proudly showed off the “toilet room” decked out to look like an outhouse in what looks like untreated wood. Upstairs in the Head of Household bedroom, decorated to look “Penthouse,” she opened the door to show that toilet as well. It’s not clear if she means Penthouse the magazine or Penthouse, like the top level of a building. Yet, as she suggested showmances will be going on in here, I’m thinking it’s the magazine. It’s all decorated in red and gray and has a set of two HoH robes, despite the fact that usually only one person is HoH.

Outside is a return to the 50s. We have the same pool as usual, with the same lone rubber duck floating around. There is a white picket fence to fit around the apple pie house and lots of patio furniture with matching place settings already outside waiting for the diners to eat out there. Maybe they plan on having lots of outdoor lockdowns.

We’ll get to see a little more of just how this all fits together when the show premieres for the season this Sunday on CBS. Presumably, the cast is either already inside the house or will be sent there from sequester in a few days. I’m wondering who will be calling dibs on the waterbed. I’m thinking it won’t be the 75-year-old, unless he’s looking to get down with Julie.
