Law and Order - Jeff Goldblum Getting Criminal

After his “big” success with the Sex and the City film (sorry for the pun, but I just had to … Carrie Bradshaw would be proud), Chris Noth is leaving his three year term on Law and Order: Criminal Intent. There’s been no acknowlegement from anyone connected to him on the reasons for his departure, but we can certainly figure he recently saw some greener pastures ahead lately.

Noth has been involved with Criminal Intent since the beginning of the Law and Order franchise, starting with the original series at its inception, playing the same character, Detective Mike Logan. He even did a crossover with this character onto Homicide: Life on the Street in 1995. During much of this time, Noth was a recurring character as Mr. Big on Sex and the City, as Carrie Bradshaw’s on-again off-again love interest. With the success of the Sex and the City film, and another two films on the way for him, it would seem he has decided to forego TV for the big screen (sorry, it’s hard to stop, really), at least for the time being.

jeff_goldblum.jpgWith Law and Order: Criminal Intent beginning in its eighth season, with new episodes being seen on USA, and later re-run on NBC, Noth left some big shoes (honestly, it’s becoming an illness) to fill. Who better to fill them than Jeff Goldblum? While most famous for his movie career in films such as The Fly, The Big Chill, Jurassic Park, and Independence Day, he’s done his time on TV with guest stints, and most recently a starring role on Raines.

It hasn’t been answered as of yet whether Goldblum will be taking over the part of Detective Logan or beginning a new role, but I would hope he would be serving his time with a new role, as he just has a totally different personality than Noth, and going without the pun this time, he really will be hard to be replaced.

I liked Goldblum on “Raines” though it lasted like two seconds. He’ll have to play a kooky character–that’s what he does best.
