Guess Who’s Checking Into Celebrity Rehab?

Published by laurabelle at 1:27 pm under Programming Edit This

20071128122609990029.jpegFinally we have some confirmation that Drew Pinsky will indeed be back for a second season of Celebrity Rehab on VH-1. We certainly know there is no shortage of deserving celebrities, and every day in the entertainment news, there seems to be a larger need for this show. After being pulled in last season, watching the drama surrounding Jeff Conaway and the others, it’s good to know they’ll be helping out another group.

Jeff is actually coming back for another session with Dr. Drew after leaving early last season. He left, saying he knew he had back surgeries ahead of him, and knew he couldn’t stay totally off prescription drugs, because of that. While he looked great on the reunion special, we just wanted to hear he’d check himself back in and finish up his treatment when all is said and done. To hear he’ll be back again is definitely great news.

Sean Stewart, son of rocker Rod Stewart, will also be checking into rehab. He’s had his share of troubles recently. After not getting into a club, he became so irate, he started hurling whatever he could pick up off the street at a car that was passing, injuring the passenger inside the car. Perhaps some classes in anger management? There’s been no mention of drug issues, but they’re surely there if the anger is.

Also checking into Celebrity Rehab will be Amber Smith. Am I the only one that didn’t know who she was? This can be looked at as both a good and a bad thing. While I don’t know who she is a s a celebrity, I also don’t know who she is as a celebrity screw up. Doing some investigating, it turns out she claims to have an I.Q. of 155, and while she started her modeling career as a blonde, she later dyed her hair red to capitalize on her Rita Hayworth-like looks. It worked, as she got numerous covers of magazines. She then turned to a B movie acting career, appearing in Private Parts, L.A. Confidential, among other films.

rodney.jpgRodney King is also listed as a celebrity entering into rehab with Dr. Drew. I’m assuming here that they mean “the” Rodney King, as in the taxi driver that was pulled from his car and beaten by the L.A. police, setting off racial tensions all over. He took the money gained from a civil case and started a hip hop music label. After this, he was arrested for spousal abuse and ordered to undergo drug treatment, having been caught with PCP. He was arrested again for speeding and a DUI, and got in an accident, breaking his pelvis. Later while riding on a bicycle, he was shot with birdshot from some guys trying to steal his bike. Maybe he doesn’t need rehab, but just needs to stay off any type of moving vehicle.

Tawny Kitaen will be sharing the rehab residence as well. She gained fame with a part in the Tom Hanks movie Bachelor Party and also straddling the top of a car in a Whitesnake video. After other videos, movies, and TV, and relationships with different rock stars and athletes, she reappeared recently on Surreal Life with her own anger management issues, getting furious with Florence Henderson and later her fiance when he fired her assistant. She’s also been arrested for drug possession and domestic abuse, after she kicked her athlete husband with her spiked boots.

What would Celebrity Rehab be without a rock star? Guns ‘n Roses drummer Steven Adler will be joining the show as well. He met fellow band member Slash when they were both 13, going to the same school, and later formed their first band together. He once broke his hand during an intoxicated barroom brawl, and his drug use became a big problem for the band when he’d miss appearances and cause numerous recording retakes. He was eventually fired from the band. He also now has a speech impediment after suffering a stroke from a bad speedball incident.

And if we have a rock star, we have to have an addicted Idol. First season’s American Idol alum Nikki McKibbin will also check in with Dr. Drew. Before Idol, she was an unmarried mother and resorted to stripping to help make ends meet. She was signed by Idol’s 19 Management, but nothing ever came of that. She made several appearances on other reality shows, and finally released a solo album in 2007. There hasn’t been any information released of her addictions, but maybe they’re seeing her as a combination Mary Carey/Jessica Sierra.

3161657746.jpgThe oddest part of next season, though, will be who they are choosing to help lead these celebrities on the up and up, Gary Busey. I’m sorry, but that guy is just whacked. Sure, he’s been sober for eleven years, but much of what comes out of his mouth doesn’t make sense. There’s the odd behavior on the red carpet during the Oscars this year, then even more shortly after as he gave an 11-year-old reporter a hard time, and bashing celebrities such as Britney Spears and Lindsay Lohen for their behavior. And he’s going to help those in rehab?

These stars are entering rehab for a 21 day stint this month, and the episodes will begin airing in October. By the end of the first season, I was caring about every single one of them, wanting to be sure they stayed on the up and up. I’m figuring to feel the same way after season two, but I do hope at some point they give us a quick update on the first season’s celebrities.
