Survivor - Trouble In Paradise

Jeff Probst was talking to the Associated Press on Wednesday after attending the opening of a new Gordon Ramsay restaurant, and what he was saying about the upcoming seventeenth Survivor season we just don’t want to hear.

Don’t worry; the long-standing host of Survivor isn’t about to divulge any spoilers. Mark Burnett would have his head and turn it into an Immunity Idol if he did. Instead, he’s telling us the upcoming season, that is about to begin filming at the end of the month in Gabon, West Africa, is having some serious filming setbacks.

For starters, there is a thirty day setback with the shipments. Probst acknowledges that his show operates differently than some other reality shows, as they need to get continual shipments in. Running as late as they are, they won’t have everything they need to get started, but it won’t be affecting the survivors themselves. It will be affecting crew, as they’ll be forced to sleep in tents instead of regular housing. Why can’t they built their own shelters like the contestants on the show?

elephants_on_beach.jpgFurther hindering production, a crane fell over, and a $100,000 cargo shipment of food was then lost. All of us faithful Survivor viewers know the only ones eating on this show are the crew and production, so it must be their food that was lost. Maybe they’ll become the true survivors, forced to eat off the land and build their own shelters. It could be kind of like a show within a show type of thing.

In addition, the crew already in place in Gabon have been experiencing problems with the local wildlife. Probst told the AP that above all, safety is the biggest concern, and they just can’t compromise that, although the prevailing thought was that it would be great if a hippo occasionally snuck into camp. He said this knowing that the executive producer had just called, alerting him to the hippo tracks recently found near their camp.

Regardless of all this going on, Probst doesn’t think anything will halt or affect the seventeenth season of Survivor premiering on CBS as scheduled in the fall. Somehow, it just makes the anticipation of the show’s return just that much more.
