Not Only Did He Not Win American Idol, He Has to Put Up With His Parents!
We started by shaking our heads, then wagging our tongues, and by now, we’re just not even sure what to think. The bad part is that the person that keeps losing out is David Archuleta.
In the beginning, we thought it was just David’s stage dad. We heard stories on how he was getting upset with David for not performing well enough, and it was making the 17-year-old cry backstage. Naomi Judd, familiar with the family from David’s time on Star Search, reiterated that this guy was the worst kind of stage dad. A few weeks later we heard rumors that Dad was no longer allowed backstage because of his manipulations. He had talked David into inserting lyrics into a song that hadn’t been cleared by Fox, meaning they had to cough up lots of dough to the rightful owners of the song.
Yet, after David lost to the other David, a guy by the last name of Cook that is already setting records for downloads at purchases of his songs, the young David had nothing but kind words and support for his father. He said in interviews it was all a misunderstanding and refuted reports that the older Archuleta had been kicked off the set by Fox.
Two weeks later, it just isn’t ending. David’s parents can’t seem to let it go that their son lost. Mrs. Archuleta, Lupe, is now in on the act. She is charging that American Idol was fixed, and that’s why her son lost to David Cook. Mrs. Archuleta is also complaining about the brand new car he won, saying he won’t be able to drive down the streets of Salt Lake City in the green Ford Escape Hybrid SUV without being recognized in it. Perhaps they should give him an old beater like most 17-year-olds are forced to drive.
And now, the Archuletas are being forced to cancel a benefit concert they were holding this Friday as a Homecoming of sorts for David. Grandpa Archuleta is joining in now as well, saying it was some type of misunderstanding, as they thought they had a verbal agreement with 19 Entertainment to pull this off. 19 Entertainment instead forced them to shut down the plans for the benefit.
It would have been a complete surprise if American Idol
It looks like the entertainment world is going to have their hands full with the Archuleta parents and what they expect, and the sad part is the one that will lose out will be David. They’re going to make it so that no record companies want to deal with him, because it will mean they’ll have to go through them first. It’s time for these parents to let him have the success he deserves and on his terms, not theirs. would have allowed the runner-up to perform a concert where they got nothing out of it, even if it was some type of benefit. Every finalist is bound to a contract until the end of the summer tour, meaning until 19 Entertainment has squeezed every penny from their popularity. To circumvent that by doing their own benefit so that Idol fans’ first listen of David post-American Idol will not have anything to do with 19 Entertainment is just absurd.

This poor kid, I can see with parents like these he will no doubt be a regular in the Tab’s and in your blog…

He’s 17. He can tell his parents to back off. Other kids have had to do it. At the moment it looks as though their pushiness and spotlight greed is going to destroy the career he ought to have. Was AI fixed? Who knows, I wouldn’t want to think so, but I can see a good reason (or 2, or is it now 3) why they would prefer someone other than him to win, and it had nothing to do with his ability, just his family!
