American Idol Tells Semi-Fianlist He’s Not Invited

Published by laurabelle at 7:27 pm under Commentary, Gossip Edit This

danny-noriega-01-2008-03-04.jpgMore and more this season on American Idol, I’m beginning to think Fox doesn’t realize the other name for reality TV is non-scripted TV. If I didn’t know better, I’d think they’d been following a script. We have the final two they’ve been touting for much of the season, and their machinations behind the scenes are becoming more and more transparent.

Today, the big American Idol gossip is from a youtube video from semi-finalist Danny Noriega. He was part of the final 24, and had voting gone a little differently, he could have been in the final 12 for all we know. Yet, he’s being told he is not allowed to attend the finale next week.

Danny addresses the camera, assumably in his own home, since he is somewhat rudely addressing his mom for interrupting him, explaining the situation. Danny hadn’t heard anything about getting tickets to the finale, but assumed he would, since he was on the show. He heard from another of the semi-finalists, Colton Barry, who was wondering how they go about obtaining their tickets.

Calling the number he had gotten from Ramiele Malubay, one of the final 12, Danny asked how he would go about getting his tickets. He was told by the person he spoke to that she would have to check with the person that does the tickets. Instead of getting a phone call back, Danny received an email telling him he would not be getting tickets to the finale, because they were “full.”

I can understand if they have a few reservations about the very upfront and vocal Danny, but is it really right to just ignore him and not allow him to go to the finale? You can’t just erase the guy, pretending he doesn’t exist. He was part of your show! Regardless of what you think of him after his appearances, he was there, and has a right to be in the audience and see how it all turns out. As he said, he’s responsible, at least in some small part, for the success of the show.

American Idol is reality and supposedly non-scripted. It doesn’t get a rewrite.

Don’t they only invite the top 10 or 12 back? Do you really think they should invite everyone that was on the show this year? I honestly don’t think that should be expected. The top 10, definitely as they are the “stars” of the tour and such. They can sell those people and need to sell them to get the tour sales going, the others have had their moment on the show already and certainly aren’t necessary for the show to be good. The producers should be allowed to pick and choose who they want to invite back the former contestants shouldn’t whine if they aren’t “picked for the team” again. That’s crazy thinking on his part and I like Danny.

Onstage, sure, it should only be the top 12. By why shouldn’t the top 24 just be allowed to sit in the audience? Why is that crazy when any joe schmo out there could get a ticket to sit in the audience>

I liked Danny and was disappointed he didn’t make it to the top 12. The top 24 should have all been there. At least have the other 12 then sitting in the audience. Geez, that’s super ignorant on American Idol’s part.
